The publisher
Ispalbooks UK publishes landmark works of literature in carefully made editions, designed so that reading is never an obstacle. Our Historika series adapts the typesetting of every title — type size, line spacing, contrast and margins — for readers with low vision, without altering a single line of the original text.
How we work
Every edition is reviewed page by page: we choose typefaces with clearly distinguishable letterforms, adjust the body size, open up the line spacing and select low-glare paper. The result is a book that stays comfortable for longer, with less visual fatigue.
Accessibility commitment
We apply the same standard to this shop. The site is built to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA:
- Minimum contrast of 4.5:1 for text and 3:1 for interface elements.
- Full keyboard navigation, always-visible focus and a skip link to the main content.
- Semantic structure with a single main heading per page.
- Descriptive alternative text on covers and accessible names on icons.
- Text size control and support for the reduced-motion preference.
- Large target areas, designed for touch use too.
Community projects
Part of the profit from several of our editions goes to social and cultural projects that promote accessible reading.
